All's quiet for the most part, only a few of the paladin's moving this late at night while the remaining civilians are quiet and lined up waiting for the next caravan out. I heard shrieking, a living kind, though a few talismans around the gates seemed to deter other prowlers.
We're close to the end of the evacuations, and what dead have slipped through have been dispatched simply by the paladins still on watch here. I'm not much use beyond a general sense of what's going on, but the surges are quieter with hell sealed.
Whatever Ratkakatoo is after likely can't be accessed now, though more and more it seems like it's as linked to the dark waters with the mirrors that aren't exactly mirrors... ah, the cooks are still down here, so don't worry, the people waiting have some thin soup to keep them warm while we're waiting. Most of the remainder are adults, I think almost all the children have already been evacuated.
There's a lack of decent rooftops to keep watch from underground. Someone should be notified. Maybe the Dwarven leader? The loud one, aren't his people of the mountains? He's built like one...
Loud tonight. Getting the rest out while we can, I'm riding with the injured paladins evacuated from hell. They needed extra hands, and I don't have to move much to offer those. How does Wen Qing keep up with this? Doctors are amazing people, I'll never understand. They have my respect. I see where the urge to solve an ailment can be incredibly rewarding when you do find the path forward, but solving problems is always satisfying.
Anyway, the point is I won't be patrolling longer tonight, I'll be down at the monastery as long as things go as planned. Not sure if people believed me when I had them put talismans on the wagon as "good luck" charms, but it takes so little to do, and they drive away some of the undead. Every measure helps.
I've seen no actual monks here, I think they're all managing to disappear down hallways or turn corners right when I would see them, it's unfair, Lan Zhan! We're in their monastery and I couldn't tell you a thing about them.
This isn't surprising, all of Alem's surviving people are here, but you'd think I'd see one or two.
I heard word that Deimar's survived and joined us here sometime either last night or this morning, he hasn't sent out word to chase the lot of us out so presumably we'll be asking after the gateway soon. We'll have to see how many people manage to get through before it becomes unstable, ah? I wish we could place the young ones at the front, convince the gateway to take them home first. Or the ones already so overwhelmed being here. If the gateway works at all, but it will, I have faith in it. Or faith in the stubbornness we display in making each gateway work just enough.
I'm sending Sizhui ahead with Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing, Daozhang is there too. I almost thought I saw something on four legs, but that didn't make any sense. I have the rabbits, I was going to leave them temporarily in the care of Galatea, but she looked more exhausted than me, this was easier.
This train looks far more fun than the one we had to use in Serthica. Less dirty, too! Might be the way a land of dreams burns all the dust off, hah? What ticket were you given? You did get one, didn't you? I was looking to find you but couldn't see so much as a hint of robes before I was shoved onboard and guided to the nicest room I've seen since the inns back home. The bed here is covered with a lovely quilt and sheets soft to the touch, and it's comfortably large! Enough for two! Maybe even three? It'd be snug with three, but we've had worse. There's also a long comfortable seating bench and several plush chairs of a type I think we saw in Serthica, or parts of Taravast when I was having to dole out blessings. There's no bath, but there's one of the standing bathing chambers and the indoor latrine instead of chamber pots, it's very nice, smells clean!
The rabbits have been exploring the floor and hopping up on to the surfaces. Is that normal? I'm yanking things out of their mouths, they really like the sheets too. No! Don't eat that! What is that, where'd you even find it? Is this a pamphlet? For midnight pleasures?
... It's fine, you can have it.
( the sound of paper being shredded joyously by rabbits in the background will now continue through the rest of this message. )
Ahahaha, hah, ah... oh! I don't know what the views will be like, but there's windows here and mirrors arranged to make the room look larger than it is. Not my favourite thing seeing this many clear reflections of myself, so much sharper than in copper mirrors! None of them feel cursed or likely made of dark water, so for that, we should be at ease.
Oh, hahaha, Lan Zhan, one of the rabbits just hopped over to the mirror and tried to nuzzle itself. Now it's sitting up? It put it's paw out...
( there's a sudden sharp THUMP )
... And turned around to kick the mirror rabbit with both feet. That won't work, Little Turnip! That's you! Ridiculous creature, what do you think you're doing?
( a cluck of his tongue, before he's back to addressing his uncommunicative spouse: )
I'm in first class room eight. So that you know! It's really lovely, I think you'll like it. They've even decorated in... okay, more my colours than yours, but it's still nice! The bathing chamber is in nice soothing blues and silvers?
Sizhui's in a nice enough place too, I almost offered to lend him a rabbit, but they're content with the nest they've made of the extra sheets and towels they pulled off the hooks in the room. I found one on the table, and these aren't short tables, these are tall ones! They were eating the fresh flowers, which seemed harmless enough. The person who works this carriage and the ones before and after it thinks they're enchanting, I have a regular green supply chain for them, and some sort of illicit trade where their droppings are getting taken away for the enrichment of the garden carriage?
I have to find this garden carriage, I wonder what that means. I'll let you know when I find out!
Let me know where you're sleeping? I was so tired I went to sleep early last night and woke up... disturbingly early for me today, but I feel refreshed! A little distanced from sensing energy as I should. Have you noticed anything? I can't tell if I'm too burned through from Alem still or if there's something else going on.
